			The years in Otan are often designated "IM", which stands for Incipit Mundi (The Beginning of the World); the most logically consistent two-letter designation for the era before the Great Erasure would be AM, standing for Ante Memoriam. In Latin, this translates to "Before Memory" — the years leading up to the Great Erasure, counting backward (or marking the lost age before the slate was wiped).

			It perfectly captures the Otanian philosophical view that whatever existed before the year 1 IM is not just "pre-history," but belonged to an entirely different world that has since been discarded or forgotten. While Sophists, historians, and treasure hunters might find artifacts or ruins from the AM era, those items are treated as remnants of a ghostly, alien reality that has no legal or spiritual claim on the current year (261 IM at the time of this writing).

Each Otan month is made up of 5 weeks and each week of 6 days for a total of 30 days. The weeks are numbered and can be referred to as 1st week, 2nd week, etc.; however, each week has a specific name as follows:
