			The [[Runic Coven]] is a school of [[Witch]]craft that centers on the power of Runes. While runes have little or no intrinsic power on their own, runic [[Witch]]es do something unique compared to most other [[Archetypes]]: they learn to transfer and preserve their Power into the symbols themselves. A great and powerful [[Witch]] might have thousands of runic powers stored up in scrapbooks, vials, window jambs, or wherever a rune can be safely (or unsafely) preserved.

			These runic stores can vary from a few letters scrolled onto parchment to giant, bejeweled carvings embossed on a stone wall. The former example might have the lesser effect of banishing a spirit from an area, while the latter might unleash a deadly curse upon an entire nation. The accomplished runic [[Witch]] has a rune for every situation.

			Students learn to deploy Runes in a number of ways, according to the needs of the enchanter. Most commonly, runes are used protectively; they are written on parchment and worn by the person seeking protection, often housed in a vial or locket to protect the paper as the paper in turn protects the wearer. Other runic applications might be applied to weapons to increase the malevolence of a sword or hammer. It is not unusual for a [[Tinker]] or [[Blacksmith]] to call upon a Runic [[Witch]] to enhance their creations.

			The language of the runes is most often the common language of the [[Witch]], with a few exceptions. Old [[Otan]]i, the language that predates all modern [[Otan]]i dialects, is a rare requirement for some high-level runic applications. For most other spells, their native language will suffice, though the specific runic font is regarded as necessary for the transfer of power, even though [[Sop]]hists remain skeptical about this, insisting that the font is strictly for stylistic purposes.

			[[Un]]like most archetypal schools, [[Witch]] covens are far more intimate. Classes usually consist of one-on-one instruction and take place in the [[Witch]]'s home. In rare circumstances, there may be two or three students, but the standard intake is a single apprentice. [[Witch]]es seeking new powers will live with their instructor, perform chores, and labor in the setup of any rituals needed to manifest the Power.

			[[Witch]]craft students often must create special paper, inks, pens, paints, brushes, or other media for the construction of their magical runes. Students will then practice writing the runes again and again until the Power they seek "comes to them." After this realization, they will possess both a new Power and their first successfully created rune. Payment for the lesson is as varied as the [[Witch]]es themselves, but it is often given in the form of a gift or favor. It is important for students to be thoughtful with their payment method.
