The Cult of Life is the smallest of the three Warlock schools, but it is by no means the least powerful. The Life Warlock's principal tool is the creation of homunculi, creatures summoned to life by the Warlock to do their bidding, performing everything from repetitive domestic chores to intense field combat.
Of the twelve Draconic elements, three represent life: Flesh, Wood, and Chitin. Thus, a Warlock who masters the Cult of Life creates life using these specific components: homunculi of stitched flesh, moving constructs of wood, and chitinous horrors that terrify even followers of the Cult of Death.
Like the other Warlock cults, the Cult of Life is as much a lifestyle as it is a school. Students revel in sharing their creations and discoveries with their peers. They frequently have their constructs adjudicated and evaluated by more powerful Warlocks to learn how they might improve both their current creations and their next projects.
Cult members often spend time with the order even when they are not actively attempting to learn a new Power, studying and participating in the non-magical skills of Warlockery, such as the procurement, preparation, and preservation of raw biological materials. Flesh, blood, ichor, chitin, and specialized foliage all have strict "best by" dates to consider when planning a new homunculus.
More advanced Warlocks learn to replace missing flesh on living beings who have been injured in battle or by predators. One should not be surprised to find the occasional companion or animal of an elder Warlock sporting mismatched limbs, as missing appendages have a tendency to stay missing until a Warlock from the Cult of Life intervenes.
Teaching Methods
Because the Cult of Life operates more like a secret order than a traditional academy, students pay their "tuition" by actively participating in cult activities. These consist of ritualistic rites and ceremonies that frequently center around gathering the raw materials needed to construct homunculi. This fieldwork includes, but is not limited to, harvesting human flesh, tracking down oversized insects, and procuring rare wood and vegetation.
Powers are learned as students and masters gather in collective rituals to spark life into a new homunculus. The masters will purposely hold back their own magic in the hopes that a student's latent Power will finally emerge. This collaborative process remains the standard for advanced Powers, though the foundational setup and rituals will differ. For the highest-level capabilities, the ritual is typically performed one-on-one, with both the instructor and student attempting to animate a massive beast together. Instruction continues until the student successfully receives their Power or the instructor deems them unready.
