The Empathic Collegiate was established as a vital sanctuary for emergent souls. An untrained empathic mind is a beacon, dangerously ripe for takeover by more powerful psychics. To survive, new members are immediately taught to construct physical shields, typically in the form of Masks that protect the frontal lobe.
Once shielded, the student progresses through a vast spectrum of influence: first learning to sense the emotions of others, then to manipulate them. Advanced initiates master the art of hearing thoughts before finally learning how to alter them entirely. These secrets are guarded with extreme prejudice, known only to those within the Collegiate.
Teaching Methods
Instruction focuses heavily on Mask-making. Each new power requires a specific mask to protect the user from "Psychic Backlash", ensuring that an empath who manipulates a victim's sorrow is not consumed by that same grief. Consequently, a Psychic classroom often resembles a workshop for costume preparations rather than a martial hall.
Teachers are easy to locate, as the Collegiate periodically broadcasts a Psychic Pulse to guide members to their location. In exchange for these lessons, students provide their mentors with gifts and a solemn pledge of alliance.
