The Cult of Summoning is the most ominous of the three cults. While the Cults of Life and Death are creative, the Cult of Summoning brings something into this world that does not belong: Daemons. Daemons are native to the Nether World, and great trouble must be taken for them to manifest on Otan. Warlocks from the Cult of Summoning learn not only how to help these Daemons bridge the gap between worlds, but also how to control them while they occupy this worldly plane.
Daemons come in every imaginable size and configuration. They range from tiny, chomping beasts too small to be observed by the human eye, to massive, thundering colossi that tower over the largest constructions of man. They may possess any number of appendages, from arms and legs to claws and wings. They also range greatly in intelligence, sometimes even outsmarting the Warlock who summoned them.
Cult members often spend time with the order even when they are not actively attempting to learn a new Power. They study the length and breadth of Daemonic existence to determine their present and future desires for summoning. It will not profit them to summon an ordinary Daemon if they require one that can fly, swim, or burrow beneath the ground.
As they become more powerful, Cult of Summoning members learn more advanced techniques with their summons. They learn to keep their Daemons on Otan for longer periods, and they learn to exert better control, extracting strict cooperation from these tricky spirits as they serve their Warlock masters.
Teaching Methods
Like the other Warlock schools, the Cult of Summoning operates as a secret order rather than a traditional academy. Students pay their "tuition" by actively participating in cult activities. These consist of ritualistic rites and ceremonies that are remarkably bookish compared to those of the other Cults.
Members of the Cult of Summoning research, document, and transcribe the works of fellow cultists to build vast libraries of the Daemonic, which better facilitates their summoning. To summon an unusual Daemon, a Warlock may embark upon their own research, but this is needless if the work has already been done. Any wise Warlock knows to check the library before attempting to summon a new Daemon.
Powers are learned when students and masters gather in collective rituals to summon Daemons. The masters will purposely hold back their own magic in the hopes that a student's latent Power will finally emerge. This collaborative process is repeated even for more advanced Powers, though the foundational setup and rituals will differ. For the highest-level capabilities, the ritual is typically performed one-on-one, with both the instructor and student attempting to summon a massive Daemonic beast together. Instruction continues until the student successfully receives their Power or the instructor deems them unready.
