Shaping Flesh, Wood, and Chitin of pure servitude via Draconic anomalies, Lividity Wizards breathe life into autonomous golems and alter organic forms. Trained in strict colleges, they forge walking trees and colossi.

Training forWizard

Students of the Academy of Lividity focus their studies on the three Draconic elements of life: Flesh, Wood, and Chitin. Neither the Wizards of this school nor the Dragons of these elements make use of a singularity as the basis for most of their spells. While the Dragons representing these three life elements possess the organoid required for special breath, they do not possess special breath themselves.

Rather than creating a singularity, it is believed that the three life Dragons create a shaped anomaly that approximates pure life. Where a regular singularity dreams of swallowing the entire universe and represents pure, consuming will, these life anomalies act as their antithesis. They represent pure servitude, invoking and shaping life at the whim of whoever controls them.

While neither Sophist nor Wizard has fully learned how the manipulation of this Draconic organoid produces the effects that it does, Wizards have successfully learned to manipulate it without the need for a Dragon. The Powers they develop vary greatly, but they all follow a cohesive theme that can best be described as the "will to live."

The Academy of Lividity's most basic spell grants life to a sand-sprite, which functions as a miniaturized golem. Wizards learn to make them walk and manipulate objects. As the caster becomes more advanced, their sprites grow larger and can complete increasingly complicated tasks. At the most powerful levels, these golems achieve full autonomy and a will that perfectly mimics a human spirit.

For matters regarding the manipulation of Flesh, Wizards of Lividity can learn to alter their own shape or the shapes of others. They might also learn to manipulate plant and chitinous matter to form walking trees or massively oversized insects. These abilities can become so potent that a Wizard can grow a single creature to such a massive scale that it can divert an entire army.

Teaching Methods

Wizard Academies are the strictest and most formal learning environments in Otan. Knocking on the door of a private Wizard's tower is a guaranteed way to get blasted, but a terrible way to find a teacher. Instead, most major cities host formal Collegiate Academies representing all five of the Wizard disciplines.

Learning a Wizard Power involves about one-fifth lecture attendance, one-fifth lab assignments, and three-fifths reading. This reading load is overwhelming for most Otani residents, as literacy is rarely a priority for the working class. Wizards who come from established magical families enjoy an early advantage, being already familiar with both common and magical script.

Powers manifest in students over time as they study and practice the artifice of a specific discipline until the magical capability is actually present within them. Students who awaken their Power ahead of their peers are still required to continue their studies until the course concludes on its regular schedule. Only then will they be granted their certification and permission to graduate to their next course of study, provided they have accumulated enough raw power.

Students must pay for their courses in the local currency before attending classes. Promising students from impoverished backgrounds are sometimes sponsored by local political leaders in an effort to assure the public that the state's magical defenses remain a priority. Alternatively, some collegiates may accept lower-income Wizards in exchange for labor, which can take various domestic or academic forms.
