Manipulating Rock, Metal, and Crystal via draconic anomalies, Solids Wizards shape stone structures, mend fortresses, or turn earth to lava. Forged through brutal manual labor and deep study, they command the enduring earth.

Training forWizard

Students of the Academy of Solids are obsessed with why things are solid and what keeps them that way. Like most other Wizard academies, their principal focus began with the special organoid found in the skull of Dragons, specifically the Dragons that represent the Solid Elements: Rock, Metal, and Crystal.

These three elemental Dragons have the ability to grow and change the very nature of the solids they manipulate. While Sophists and Wizards have failed to fully explain the workings of the numinous Draconic organoids that make this possible, they have successfully learned to replicate and manipulate these phenomena.

Graduates of the Academy of Solids are known for growing crystals, mending cracks in stone edifices, reshaping stone and metal constructions, or even turning the ground to lava. The most famed Solids Wizards have been known to level massive fortresses or throw up great stone barriers to alter the battlefield.

Students of this Academy can expect to spend a significant amount of time underground observing the nature of the rock, metallic ores, and crystals they are required to manipulate. They spend their days in the mines and their evenings in the laboratories, working to transform the raw fruits of their labor into magically altered materials.

Academy of Solids students endure the most grueling studies of the five disciplines. After long days spent mining and working in labs, they must, like all other students of magic, make careful notes of everything they do. If the exact moment they manifest magic is not thoroughly documented, it might not be repeatable. In this academy, everything must be written down.

Teaching Methods

The Academy of Solids, like all Wizard Academies, maintains exceptionally strict and formal work and study environments. While a budding student might witness Wizards heading down into a mine, making casual inquiries is a guaranteed way to be ignored or rebuffed. Academy classes require formal enrollment through a collegiate academy, and tuition must be paid upfront before a student is accepted by the academy registrars.

Learning a Solids Wizard Power involves about three-fifths digging and manual labor, one-fifth laboratory assignments, and one-fifth reading and rigorous note-taking. Their day lasts a full 16 hours, contrasting sharply with the 8-to-10-hour workloads of other Wizard disciplines. The intense reading and writing requirements are overwhelming for many people of Otan, as literacy is rarely a priority for the working class. Wizards who come from established magical families enjoy an early advantage, being already familiar with both common and magical script.

Powers typically manifest in Solids students during their laboratory time as they study and practice the artifice of a specific discipline. They will experience a sudden intuition, and without any prior warning, the Power will be present within them. Students who awaken their Power ahead of their peers are still required to continue their studies until the course concludes on its regular schedule. Only then will they be granted their certification and permission to graduate to their next course of study, provided they have accumulated enough raw power.

Students must pay for their courses in the local currency before attending classes. Promising students from impoverished backgrounds are sometimes sponsored by local political leaders in an effort to assure the public that the state's magical defenses remain a priority. Alternatively, some collegiates may accept lower-income Wizards in exchange for labor, which can take various domestic or academic forms.
