While Knights are traditionally heralded for their peerless defense, the Code of Arms is the discipline of the legendary strike. In standard combat, two armored Knights might exchange blows for an eternity without a victor; the Code of Arms exists to break that stalemate. By manifesting their "Will" through their weapon, a Knight can deliver a Smite, a blow of such epic, concentrated force that it can cleave through the scales of a dragon or the hide of a giant.
These are the powers of the slayer, reserved for those moments when the Knight must move beyond being a bulwark and become the hand of absolute destruction. Not every Knight possesses these offensive miracles, but those who do are the ones whose names are carved into the history of Otan.
Teaching Methods
Mastery of these lethal techniques requires a well-stocked armory and a dedicated training field. The instructor is almost always the Knight’s Lord or a high-ranking noble who has already manifested the "Will to Strike." Training is a cycle of rigorous physical conditioning and philosophical alignment. Uniquely, the Knight must attempt to pass these lessons down to their own students or squires to solidify their understanding. While the students themselves rarely receive the Power, as they lack the necessary spiritual maturity, the act of teaching forces the Knight to externalize and refine their own conviction.
