The relationship between a Knight and their mount is a mystery that eludes even the most learned Sophists. While others see an animal, the Knight sees a partner in a unified "weapon system." By living the Code, the Knight transforms a simple beast into an extension of their own "Will." This unspoken link, often described as "second nature," allows for precise positioning and supernatural speed that far exceeds mundane horsemanship. Whether atop a traditional charger, a massive rhino, or a soaring hippogryph, a Knight attuned to Dressage moves with a fluidity that suggests a shared mind.
Teaching Methods
Training requires a dedicated Dressage Ring, tailored to the specific needs of the mount, a hippogryph requires more vertical space than a pony. Once the grounds are established, the Knight’s Lord attends to oversee the drills and prescribe a regimen of daily exercises. Uniquely, the Code of Dressage requires the student to not only master the ride but also to teach the basics to a squire. This pedagogical requirement ensures the Knight truly understands the nuances of the link; by instructing another, the Knight’s own "Will" over the mount becomes absolute.
