Brutes use unshakeable resolve to negate damage; opponents simply miss or fail to pierce their skin. Lessons occur in taverns, where students study brawls and pay the instructor's food and drink tabs.

Training forBrute

The Codex of Will is perhaps the most enigmatic of the Brute disciplines, often leaving scholars and Sophists in a state of frustrated disagreement. It enables a Brute to align their internal resolve so completely with a task that they achieve the impossible through sheer, stubborn existence. The fundamental requirement of this Codex is a total, unshakeable belief that the Brute’s cause is the only "true" remedy to a problem.

While other archetypes may seek diplomatic or magical solutions, a student of the Codex of Will chooses the path of direct action, often violence. Entering a fray without the heavy armor of a Knight or the martial finesse of a Duelist, the Brute relies on their "Will" to survive. Under this influence, reality seems to bend: opponents’ strikes miss their mark as if repelled by an invisible force, and landed blows fail to even part the Brute's skin. To follow this Codex is to become an immovable object in a world of kinetic threats.

Teaching Methods

The "classroom" for the Codex of Will is as unconventional as its philosophy, trading the training yard for the tavern or the public square. Here, the student is directed to become an observer of human (and non-human) nature. They watch countless verbal disputes and "harmless" physical scuffles, learning to identify the exact moment an enemy’s resolve relents. They study how a truly forceful attack can be dissipated with nothing more than a steady glance or a thunderous shout.

The cost of this education is practical: the student is expected to foot the food and beverage tab for their instructor (and often a table of the instructor's peers). While a long night of "study" in a capital’s high-end tavern can run up a significant bill, it remains far more affordable than the exorbitant fees of Wizardly tutelage. From the most basic defensive stance to the high-level "Stone Skin," every power in this Codex is taught through this immersion in social and physical friction.
