Homo Ingeniosus Mercator
The Sawdager (Homo Ingeniosus Mercator) represent the apex of commercial evolution within the Kuulik strain, possessing a cognitive architecture uniquely specialized for the complexities of global trade. While a standard human perceives commerce as a simple exchange of currency for goods, a Sawdager views the world through a dense tapestry of interlocking variables.
Sawdager minds instinctively calculate the "true cost" of any commodity, accounting for production durations, completion schedules, logistical overhead, and the often-overlooked expenses of insurance and long-term storage. This innate talent for macro-economics is what allows the Kuulik to navigate the fragmented markets of Otan, turning the challenges of high-risk transport into opportunities for massive profit.
Beyond mere calculation, the Sawdagers possess an intuitive grasp of the entire product lifecycle. They automatically visualize complex distribution networks, maintaining meticulous customer relations with retailers while seamlessly navigating the cultural and localization hurdles of distributing products in foreign lands. This worldly instinct allows them to manage special requests and unforeseen logistical crises with a speed that borders on the supernatural.
Whether they are coordinating a Dweorgen ore shipment to the western Araldar Islands or localizing Aelfen art for the high mountain markets of Altinquor, Sawdager ingenuity and resilience stand behind their indispensable architecture of Otani prosperity. They strive to ensure that the wheels of the world keep turning even when political tensions have boiled over.
Physical Characteristics

The Sawdager substrain exemplifies the Kuulik strain with a typical physical height of around 120cm (4 ft.). They are identifiable among other Kuulik by the reddish coloring of their nose and ears. The amount of redness can vary from one person to another.
Their hair is uniformly black, with male-pattern baldness occurring in males as young as 20. As with nearly every strain, both male and female Sawdagers will start to gray around their 40th year. They are typically slim and agile even into their waning years.
Sawdager Culture

Sawdagers embrace ex-pat culture. There are few Sawdager families who do not have family members living abroad. Sawdagers may observe Kuulik traditions privately, but they will do so within their own homes and out of the view of the public. They will casually observe local traditions, however, regardless of the country or culture that they are in. It is good for business.
If a Sawdager-run business is operating in a village that is celebrating an agricultural festival, for example, you can be sure that the Sawdager proprietor will contribute to the event as appropriate. They will decorate their shop to commemorate the event and donate generously to any village-wide festivities. They may even participate in any local ceremonies, regardless of how silly they may personally view the event.
Sawdager Geography

Sawdager Kuulik can be found in nearly every large city and village on Otan. While half their numbers do reside on the Kuulik Peninsula and its islands, the remainder live and work out of shops, shipping facilities, warehouses, and other trade and transport industries worldwide.
Sawdagers are always looking to expand their business to any town that does not already have Kuulik businesses running within. Should you find a town without a Sawdager-run business, you can probably wager that there are Sawdagers in the local inn negotiating a deal for the next business to enter the town.
