Otan’s most common school. Bards use melody to soothe beasts or crush enemies with "Power Chords." Training is fluid, often passed between travelers at roadside inns or grand conservatories.

Training forBard

If the Academy of Dance is the poetry of motion, the School of Music is the heartbeat of Otan itself. It is widely whispered that "music doth soothe the savage beast," but for the Bard, melody is a weapon of profound rhetorical and martial power. At its most subtle, a master of this school can sway the collective humors of a crowd, inciting a tavern to joyous riot or plunging a mourning court into a trance of restorative peace.

When the "Will to Power" is channeled through chord and chorus, however, the results turn deadly. High-level practitioners can manifest "Power Chords" and "Harmonic Ruptures", sonic surges capable of shattering glass, rendering targets unconscious, or inflicting internal hemorrhaging through pure vibration. In the hands of a Musical Bard, an instrument is never merely wood and string; it is a focus for the very resonance of the world.

Teaching Methods

Unlike the rigid halls of the Academy of Dance, the School of Music is as much a state of mind as it is a physical location. While prestigious conservatories exist within the high-walled districts of major cities, much of this school’s wisdom is found "on the road." Education often takes the form of an apprenticeship or a series of ad-hoc lessons between travelers.

A master Bard, encountered at a roadside inn or aboard a merchant vessel, may be willing to pass along a specific "Refrain of Power" to a promising student. In formal urban schools, fees are standardized and strictly enforced; however, in the wild, the cost of a lesson varies wildly, ranging from a few gold coins to the sharing of a rare bottle of wine or a secret piece of political intelligence.
