Unlike Wizards who meticulously calculate equations or Bards who leverage musical persuasion, a Divine develops a profound, deeply personal connection to a specific deity. This chosen patron is not a distant, passive concept, but an active cosmic entity that regularly intercedes in the mortal affairs of Otan, altering physical laws and rewriting realities on behalf of their faithful mortal vessels.

To manipulate reality, a Divine relies on the exact execution of sacred rituals, the burning of ceremonial incense, and the forceful recitation of holy litanies. These spoken decrees vibrate with an inherited, celestial frequency that bends the ambient environment to the deity’s specific domain. Consequently, their internal reservoir of power is completely tethered to their spiritual standing; a Divine cannot simply sleep away their exhaustion, but must actively recharge their metaphysical reserves through hours of intensive, solitary prayer, profound meditation, and physical acts of penitence designed to purge the ego.

In daily life, a Divine is entirely consumed by their faith, making their chosen god their absolute favorite subject of conversation and intellectual debate. They view every historical event, natural phenomenon, and social interaction through the lens of divine providence, often attempting to steer secular dialogues back toward theology. Despite this profound civic reverence, a Divine is rarely called upon by the community during the immediate onset of a violent external threat. While Knights and Brutes charge into the breach, the civilian population deliberately keeps the Divine sheltered, viewing them as too spiritually precious to risk on a chaotic frontline. Should a master of the faith possess high-tier manifestations of celestial authority, they will fearlessly confront a catastrophic threat head-on rather than waiting in the rear. These high-ranking paragons wield devastating, wide-scale miracles capable of altering the entire geography of a battlefield, summoning cascading walls of holy fire, blinding thousands of invading troops with celestial brilliance, or manifesting oppressive gravitational auric fields that can completely slow or halt an entire advancing army in its tracks.

Divine Schools

The scholarly and theological evolution of the Divine is preserved through a dual inheritance of rigorous written scrolls and dynamic oral traditions. In the grand cathedrals and isolated monasteries of Otan, initiates spend years transcribing ancient codices while listening to the rhythmic, spoken chants of senior clergy. This intensive education categorizes a Divine's calling into three distinct, specialized operational bodies known as the Divine Conclaves:

The Conclave of Augury: This school focuses entirely on the manipulation of time, fate, and cosmic sight. Disciples of the Conclave of Augury learn to read the subtle ripples of divine intent within the casting of lots, the alignment of the stars, or the patterns of sacrificial smoke, allowing them to predict enemy movements, uncover hidden treachery, and guide their allies along paths that have been mathematically pre-ordained by the heavens.

The Conclave of Devotion: Centered on the absolute fortification of the physical and psychological self, this discipline trains Divines to act as unyielding anchors for their companions. Through intensive somatic conditioning and litanies of pure faith, adherents learn to project massive, invisible defensive auras that shield their allies from mental despair, magical curses, and elemental trauma, turning their very presence into a sanctuary on the battlefield.

The Conclave of Sacrament: This deeply ritualistic school focuses on the active, physical manifestation of a deity's wrath and mercy. By kneeling before this localized altar and executing minimized versions of their home rituals, they ensure a steady, albeit limited, trickle of divine favor while far from civilization.

Divine Factions

Organizationally, a Divine is completely inseparable from a religious faction, invariably belonging to an established church, monastic order, or holy sect dedicated to their patron deity. They do not operate as independent mercenaries, but as official emissaries of their faith, bound by an intricate hierarchy of bishops, high priests, and sacred councils who dictate their global theological directives.

In many regions of Otan, these religious factions do double duty as immensely powerful political factions, seamlessly blending moral authority with absolute secular governance. These hyper-militant holy states and administrative caliphates wield total control over the local populace, drafting laws, collecting taxes, and enforcing borders based entirely on divine decree. Within these factions, a Divine acts as both a spiritual shepherd and a high-ranking political administrator, using the absolute fear of divine retribution to maintain socio-political order over millions of citizens.
