The true mavens of Witchcraft, Coven Universal members founded the twelve Archetypes. They master cosmic relationships, practice the art of flight, and pass down their rare, versatile magical traditions via intimate apprenticeships.

Training forWitch

The most familiar and ubiquitous of the covens of Witches is the Coven Universal. Though sometimes claimed by the Herbal Coven, the Coven Universal is the first school that brought the twelve Archetypes to power. Because of the Great Erasure, this assertion cannot be proved, but the evidence is strong enough that even the Sophists agree it is the likely truth.

The Coven Universal is beholden to the universe; the entire universe. This involves the other worlds contained within the Universe: the physical, the spiritual, and the intellectual worlds that weave a complete reality. Witches were the first to summon and make pacts with the Daemons of the Nether World, leading to Warlocks. Witches were the first to negotiate with the Divinities of the Heavens, making room for Divines.

Witches were the first to understand the relationships between Body, Mind, and Spirit. They recognized the power in community, giving way to the Knights. Witches documented the relationship between food, exercise, and fitness, making Brutes a possibility. Witches first heard the music of the universe, and so they taught the first Bard. They taught Hunters and Shamans the ways of animals, and Rogues to stay out of sight.

The student of the Coven Universal learns all of these things and more as they learn their new Powers. Unique to this coven, they will learn to fly. They will also learn to use their eyes to curse and destroy their enemies. While other covens often take a defensive or support role in a conflict, the Coven Universal Witches take to the offense. Coven Universal members are the Valkyries of Witches.

Teaching Methods

Witch covens differ greatly from other archetypal schools, as there are no stuffy classrooms to distract from their lessons. Classes are broken down into one-on-one instruction and most often take place right in the instructing Witch's home. In rare circumstances, there may be additional students, but the standard intake is a single apprentice. Witches seeking new Powers live with their instructor, perform chores, and labor in the setup of any rituals needed until the new Power is acquired.

Students assist their instructor in the numinous studies of the Universe. They examine writings, guidance, and knowledge from a variety of Archetypes and professions that use Power to better understand how Power works. Witches and their students document what they learn with the patience of a Sophist. In fact, they will often work alongside cooperative Sophists to increase their collective knowledge.

New Powers are granted after an arbitrary amount of study, reflection, and documentation. The new Power might come to the student naturally after enough time is spent in the creation of a new broom or a relevant artifact. Students may leave their instructor immediately after the Power is granted.

Once they depart, students should be sure to transcribe a personal copy of as much of their research as possible, as this documentation may be needed for future endeavors. Payment for the lesson varies greatly, but it often takes the form of a gift or favor.
