| Plural | Kizil Adahar |

The Kizil Aydahar (Homo Draconus Pyros) are the formidable, hot-blooded inhabitants of the Kizil Aydahar region within Altinquor, directly descended from the lineage of Fire Dragons. Their origin is often marked by a dramatic and intense biological union, where a Fire Dragon infects a human mother with its "essence" to produce the first of a line.
Physically, they are easily distinguished by their vibrant red scales and unique white-tipped, backward-swept horns. As a substrain, they embody the fierce and aggressive traditions of the Aydahar, often serving as shock troops or high-intensity guardians whose temperaments reflect the searing heat of their ancestral lands.
Beyond the standard resilience of their strain, the Kizil possess a specialized internal organ that allows them to produce and expel a devastating fiery blast, mirroring the breath weapon of a true Fire Dragon. This volatile biological capability requires significant discipline; with proper training, a Kizil Aydahar learns to regulate their internal heat, granting them a potent natural resistance to fire and extreme temperatures.
Their specialized physiology likely influences their dietary habits, as they frequently consume high-energy or "spiced" fare, such as the roasted Fissure Spiders common to the Altinquor region, to fuel the metabolic demands of their pyrogenic abilities. Kizil Aydahari fare is considered a delicacy by the Karazalik, who are no strangers to spicy fare.
Physical Characteristics
The Kizil are among the most visually distinctive of the Aydahar, with vibrant red scales and backward-swept horns tipped in white. Their bodies carry the characteristic draconic traits of the Aydahar strain, but their Fire Dragon ancestry is particularly apparent in those who inherit the ability to produce flame. The Kizil are known throughout Altinquor for their affinity with fire, and fire-resistant individuals are common enough to make the trait an expected part of Kizil life.
The defining biological gift of many Kizil is fire breath. A specialized organ allows them to produce and expel flame much like a true Fire Dragon, and those who possess the ability can eventually learn to control their internal heat and withstand extreme temperatures. The ability is not merely a weapon; fire-breathing Kizil have learned to use their gift in everyday work, from lighting ovens to contributing their Dragon fire to the forging of weapons and other objects.
The Kizil's relationship with fire extends even to their physical exertions and preferred foods. Their cuisine favors powerful flavors and substantial energy, with insects, peppers, and other spicy ingredients appearing frequently in their meals. To a Kizil, apparently, food that does not make the tongue question its life choices has not been properly seasoned.
Kizil Aydahar Culture
Of all the Aydahar, the Kizil are among the most militant and nationalist. They take particular pride in military parades, the defense of their homeland, and the strength of Altinquor. Kizil warriors are frequently found among the nation's shock troops and guardians, while Knights have developed a formidable reputation fighting from the backs of Battle Lizards.
The Kizil do not reserve their relationship with fire for warfare. Their blacksmiths use Dragon fire in their craft, sometimes bathing an object in the flame of an Aydahar to give it a special quality. Fire-breathing Kizil also commonly operate inns and taverns, where their natural abilities become useful rather than destructive. Their breath can light ovens, heat food, and even become part of their celebrated drink, Feirzpan.
Kizil society has room for people who do not fit neatly into the military mold. Their Bards are accomplished dancers, orators, and musicians, while their Shamans combine their affinity for fire with a strong connection to nature. Witches practice their craft despite the obvious complications of combining witchcraft with an ability to set things on fire, and Wizards have been known to take the Kizil gift to spectacular and sometimes alarming extremes.
Fire also carries a cultural distinction of its own. Kizil generally regard the fire that comes from Dragon breath as a natural and proper expression of their heritage, while magical fire from places such as the Nether World is viewed with considerably more suspicion. This gives their relationship with fire a religious and cultural dimension beyond simple utility: not all flames are created equal.
Kizil Aydahar Geography
The Kizil inhabit the Kizil Aydahar Region of the Altinquor Confederation, whose capital is the city of Kizil. Their broader geographic preference is for plains and other wide-open spaces, making them the most outward-facing of the Aydahar when compared with the underground Kara, mountain-dwelling Aq, and water-adapted Jazil.
Kizil settlements make extensive use of the open space available to them. The city of Kizil is specifically identified as the regional capital, and the available material depicts it as a substantial urban center with fortified civic features, open markets, religious buildings, and a sizable population. Its Chantry of Jormungandr is particularly notable, incorporating enormous quantities of stone into an elaborate representation of the Infinite One.
The Kizil's geography also supports their military character. Their open homeland provides room for military organization, mounted forces, and defensive planning, while their cities serve as centers for the industries that support those forces. Kizil engineers are regarded as among the finest civil engineers on Otan, and their ability to combine ambitious construction with their distinctive relationship to fire has produced some remarkable works.
For all their reputation as warriors, Kizil settlements are not simply military camps. Inns, taverns, markets, workshops, religious centers, and ordinary homes form the everyday landscape of their communities. A visitor may arrive expecting a fortress full of angry, fire-breathing soldiers and instead find a tavern serving spicy food and a drink with actual flames on top. The distinction may not last long, but it is worth enjoying while it does.
